We heart Eat My Words, not just because they let us have our cake in oh-so-adorable mini-cup style, but also because they help others eat too (proceeds from their treat boxes go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation, to help ease the pain of HIV/AIDS in Africa).
So we couldn’t have been more excited with eat my words launched the (more waist-friendly) initiative MonkeyBiz, a line of kid-friendly (but adult-birthday gift-worthy) beaded animals last year that offer employment and empowerment to women in Cape Town, South Africa.

Starting today and running through May 23, Eat My Words and Ingram Gallery present the first Canadian Exhibition of MonkeyBiz beaded art at Ingram Gallery. Check out the dozens of animals (starting at $50). They make the perfect gift to a child, friend, or just yourself.

There’s nothing we love more than a bowl of cereal (sometimes even for dinner), which is why we were excited when we heard about the Kellogg’s Adventure Pass. In partnership with the Canadian Museums Association (CMA), the Kellogg’s Adventure Pass gives you $10 off admission to more than 500 museums, art galleries and zoos across Canada (including our favourite, the newly redesigned AGO) when you purchase a box of Kellogg’s cereal.

The Kellogg’s Adventure Pass on-pack offer can be found until mid-May on specially marked boxes of Kellogg’s cereals, including Rice Krispies, Frosted Flakes, Mini-Wheats, Corn Pops and Raisin Bran, and is valid until December 30, 2009.
We’re not sure which we’re craving more: an afternoon of culture, or a bowl of cereal.

We’ve done the pedicure party, the Fantasia party, the jewellery party. But a tea party?
Now that’s a party we can raise a teacup to. Especially when someone else does all the planning, serving and cleanup.
Like a Tupperware party, a Steeped party involves a representative, who brings all the fabulous loot to your home, so all you have to do is invite your favourite tea party guests. Each party includes:
- Tea Consultation prior to event (½ hour).
- Tea pots.
- Half price items with every $250 in sales.
- 3 teas for sampling at your party, chosen by the hostess at the consultation.
- 20% Hostess credit towards tea and accessories.
Then, you drink tea, gossip and shop for your favourite tea party essentials. We love the Brew in a Mug (a ceramic mug, infusor and lid in one), the Heart Throb Infusor (heart-shaped, of course) and the colour-coded Tea Timer (green sand for green, white sand for white, and black sand for black tea).
Don’t have any tea-drinking friends? Time to make new ones, then (kidding! kind of.) Steeped Tea also features sweet treats (scone mix, jams and cookies), candles, soaps and reed diffuser sets.
Now all you have to do is set a date and invite your guests! (We’re free most Sunday afternoons, hint, hint).
PS Want to win free tea? Enter
here before May 15!

It’s only the first day of spring – but visions of weekends at the cottage and drinks on the dock are already running rampantly through our minds. So it couldn’t be more appropriate that Corona is kicking off its Chairs for Charity Auction this weekend. The auction, which officially opens with bidding beginning on March 22, will feature traditional Muskoka chairs that have been transformed by six Canadian artists into Corona Chairs that will benefit the Cottage Dreams Cancer Recovery Initiative – a charity that provides time away at a donated cottage for cancer survivors and their families.
Participating artists include: V. Tony Hauser, Charles Pachter, Rose Pearson, David Hickey, Marilyn Brooks and Noelia Marziali.
For a sneak peek at all of the chairs, head to www.coronaextra.ca and click on the Corona Chairs for Charity section. The Corona chairs will be on display at the Spring Cottage Life Show at the International Centre in Mississauga from March 27-29, 2009.
All proceeds from the auction will go to Cottage Dreams, an organization that works with cottage owners who are willing to donate a week at their cottage to bring cancer survivors and their families together for a relaxing getaway. Since September 2003, Cottage Dreams has grown to include hundreds of donated cottages from across Ontario and has offered cottages to more than 500 families.
In addition to proceeds raised by the auction, Corona will donate $10,000 to Cottage Dreams. Now that’s a company we can raise a glass (or bottle) to.

The spring One of a Kind show is fast approaching, arriving at the Direct Energy Centre on April 1st until the 5th. And this year, back by popular demand, you can pre-order your Girls’ Day Out at One of a Kind Shopping Package to get the most out of your trip!
Available online until 5 p.m. on Monday, March 23, each package includes: admission to the show, lunch voucher, ClubOne membership card (5% discount at participating booths, one hour early entrance to the show, free internet access, and more), and a reusuable shopping bag — all for $20! And, if you plan on driving to the show, you can even add a parking pass to your package for another $10. Considering that the admission alone is $10 online ($12 at the doors) and that lunch can be pretty pricey, this is definitely an excellent deal. Plus, the shopping bags (shown above) are super cute!
If you’ve never been to the One of a Kind show, make sure you attend this year. Originally introduced as a “craft show”, the twice yearly festival (also in December, just in time for Christmas shopping!) features unique and handcrafted clothing, artwork, home decor, jewelery, body products, and much, much more. When you’re hungry for a snack, always remember to check out the food aisle where you can taste test homemade jams, spreads, chocolate, and all sorts of yummy goods.
Get your girls together and visit the OOAK ticketing page to order your package today!

Looking for some cheap mid-week fun? The newly renovated Art Gallery of Ontario invites guests to visit their permanent collections and special exhibits on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for free!
I took advantage of this great deal (regular adult admission is $18) a couple of weeks ago and can’t recommend it enough. Exploring the gallery is a fantastic way to spend a few hours on a weekday night and when it’s completely free, it’s even better.

If you haven’t visited the gallery since this past November, one of the best aspects of your trip might be checking out the transformed space itself, courtesy of Toronto-born architect Frank Gehry. One of the highlights of his new designs can be seen in the photo above of the north facing second floor Galleria Italiano.
In addition to the gallery’s permanent collections (I heart the contemporary collection the most!), special exhibits are always passing through the AGO’s walls. Some of the most interesting current exhibits include “All Together Now: Recent Toronto Art”, a collection of DIY works from local artists, and “The Hidden Life Within”, an installation from Italian artist Giuseppe Penone.
