Looking for some cheap mid-week fun? The newly renovated Art Gallery of Ontario invites guests to visit their permanent collections and special exhibits on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for free!

I took advantage of this great deal (regular adult admission is $18) a couple of weeks ago and can’t recommend it enough. Exploring the gallery is a fantastic way to spend a few hours on a weekday night and when it’s completely free, it’s even better.

If you haven’t visited the gallery since this past November, one of the best aspects of your trip might be checking out the transformed space itself, courtesy of Toronto-born architect Frank Gehry. One of the highlights of his new designs can be seen in the photo above of the north facing second floor Galleria Italiano.

In addition to the gallery’s permanent collections (I heart the contemporary collection the most!), special exhibits are always passing through the AGO’s walls. Some of the most interesting current exhibits include “All Together Now: Recent Toronto Art”, a collection of DIY works from local artists, and “The Hidden Life Within”, an installation from Italian artist Giuseppe Penone.
