Go Fysh

I wear glasses daily, and so I got to thinking how we change our belt, bracelets, earrings and footwear daily, but why don’t we change our glasses?
Maybe it’s because I have the largest head ever, and I find it difficult to find glasses that cover both my eyeballs.
And then, I discovered Fysh.
A UK (Urban Kool) company, I heart Fysh’s mandate to help customers find the best frames for their face. Because you can’t change your face shape, but you can change your glasses to make you look your best.
There are three general rules:
1. The frame shape should contrast your face shape.
2. The frame size should be in scale with your face.
3. Eyewear should enhance your best feature (blue eyes should wear blue frames).
Confession: I’m not totally sold on Rule #3. I have blue eyes, but I refuse to wear blue frames like I refuse to wear blue eyeshadow. Because although both may make my baby blues bluer, they are just too overstated for my personality. Anyway, rules are made to be broken, right?.
However, I do love the first two rules — especially #1. So let’s talk face shape.
Long faces

Try: Large, wide frames that extend beyond the temple, with arms that are centred in the middle of the frame, help shorten the face.
Avoid: Small, square frames that will just make the face look longer.
Oval faces
Try: Round and square styles. Slightly angular frames add structure to your face.
Avoid: Heart-shaped styles that echo the shape of the jaw.
Square faces:
Try: Finer shallow frame such as ovals and soft rectangular shapes to soften your features. A high side position will add length to your face.
Avoid: Square styles and those that are wider than your face.
Round faces:
Try: Angular frames such as rectangulars will lengthen your face and draw attention to your cheekbones.
Avoid: Small round glasses or very large shapes that will echo the shape of your face.
As for me, my head is as round as a honeydew melon, so I’m all about the wide rectangular frames, and Fysh is full of them (just like the sea, ha ha). But, whereas many brands only offer the clunky plastic frames or frames with top edges only, Fysh has a whole variety, including light wire frames that define your face but don’t overpower it. I chose a black wire pair with wide brass arms that are open and airy. They’re rectangular (Rule #1: check!) and just slightly wider than my face (Rule #2: check!). They’re not blue, but i heart them more than i’d heart any blue pair, any day.
